As part of Audubon New York, the state office of the National Audubon Society, the Montezuma Audubon Center serves as a gateway for adults and school-aged children to get involved in local conservation efforts and experience the wonder of the outdoors. The Center houses a large exhibit area, classroom, nature store, office area, auditorium, and a meeting room. On its 198 acres, there are five different types of habitat, two restored freshwater marshes, two miles of hiking trails, and an all-access observation platform. We are open to the public. Visitors come to our center year-round to enjoy our educational programming and special events, engage in conservation action, and experience migration along one of the most active flight lanes in the Atlantic Flyway. The Montezuma Audubon Center provides opportunities for on-site, outdoor education programs, trails for bird watching or nature walks, and space to learn, share knowledge, and take action on behalf of birds and other wildlife. Our school standards-based programs, summer camps, youth sportsman activities, Scout programs, wildlife presentations, and Montezuma lectures offer a diverse array of experiences that strengthen the relationship between people and nature. We connect with more than 2,500 schoolchildren each year through hands-on, minds-on field trips and activities. Our reach extends to family offerings like birding hikes, driving tours, snowshoeing and paddling to explore Montezuma’s birding hotspots. Additionally, each year we welcome 5,000 visitors to our center who learn from our indoor exhibits and explore Montezuma’s birds.
