Brave Women Sites

Sure, reading about these women is one way to learn about them. But breathing the same air, walking through their homes, reading original letters – that’s how you really get it.

The history that was made in the Finger Lakes is so crucial to the history of our country that they have national recognition. Multiple sites have been designated as national historical parks and/or are on the national register of historic places – most notably those dedicated to women’s rights and Harriet Tubman.

These homes, museums, and parks are some of the most important landmarks where women secured the right to vote. Where women fought for gender equality and racial justice. Places – both public and private – where abolitionists fought against slavery and helped freedom seekers get to safety.

The National Women’s Hall of Fame continues to honor women, both past and present, who have made a profound impact on society, while the Ganondogan State Historic Site is dedicated to the indigenous people who first inhabited the Finger Lakes region.
